Class Offerings: Armed Combatives of Paulus Hector Mair
This class will explore the German mixed weapons tradition as presented by 16th Century combat historian Paulus Hector Mair.
We will be looking at Mair's presentation of combat with a number of different weapons from the traditional to the more exotic, including polearms (staff, spear, poleaxe, etc), farm implements (sickle and scythe), single handed sword, dussak (think of it as a German machete and you won't be too far off), and more.
Along the way, we may supplement Mair's material from related German sources to help build out a fuller picture of how these weapons were used and how their use can be adapted to more or less any weapon you might want to pick up.
We will have a limited supply of loaner equipment available in class including weapons and masks. Gloves are available for sale at the school.
This class is taught in Portland by Matthew Howden
