What is a Saturday Seminar?

Saturday Seminars are one day intensive classes on a particular topic. They are intended to give a basic jumping off point for new students as well as a chance for more experienced students to step back and see the bigger picture.

What will we be studying?

This seminar we will be covering the rapier system of Gerard Thibault as presented in his treatise 'Academy of the Sword.' This is a Hispano-Dutch system from the early 17th Century and Thibault's theory provides the backbone for a lot of what we do at Academia Duellatoria.

We will look a little bit at the historical context of the system and then move quickly into posture and movement as we explore the basic theory and techniques of this elegant system.

What should I bring?

Comfortable clothes

Training shoes are recommended (street shoes are not allowed on the training floor), but you are welcome to work out in socks or bare feet.

If you have them bring a fencing mask, gloves, and a practice rapier (no sharp blades). Thibault's system calls for a rapier without a knuckle-bow. If you don't have these items, don't worry, we have extras at the school and we will make it work.

Food or money for lunch. We will be breaking to eat at around 1:00pm. There are a number of restaurants nearby including a Subway in the complex.

What does it cost?

$30 at the door. $20 for students of Academia Duellatoria.
